Happy Birthday, Rick!

So, today is my father-in-law's birthday, and I was lucky enough to make the cake for his dinner celebration with the family.  Also lucky for me is that Rick and I both share the same favorite cake-- red velvet!

As muh as I love the traditional cream cheese frosting, I wanted to give this birthday cake a little extra pizazz. So I made a sight modification to get a cannoli frosting.  I also adorned the edge of the cake with chocolate hazelnut pirouette cookies.  I'm calling it "Italian Velvet."  The result was incredible.

As you can see, I also wrote a tasty chocolate birthday message to Rick!

The cake was perfectly moist and a bright deep red, just as it should be.

The cake was also incredibly rich.  I did my job of putting everyone into a sugar coma after dinner.

Maybe the pieces should have been one pirouette smaller.... ;-)

Happy Birthday Rick!!

National Boss's Day

Today was National Boss's Day and we made the perfect treats to say "Thanks!!"

Dough!! Cookie dough filled vanilla cupcakes with a cookie dough center.

Dark chocolate cupcakes with a salted caramel filling and caramel frosting.

Pumpkin cupcakes with a cannoli frosting.

And marshmallow cut outs dipped in chocolate. The blossoms even had a peanut butter surprise!!

How did you say thanks?

Welcome!

Welcome to the Pretty Sweet blog! I am so excited to begin offering my tasty and creative treats. I have always enjoyed baking. I love the creativity that goes into it. I began looking up recipes and always had some little tweaks to make. I wasn't that experienced, but intuitively knew how to pair flavors and textures. When it came time for decoration, I wanted to make my goodies look as great as they tasted.  I have a total sweet tooth and love seeing others enjoy the end result.

I am thrilled to offer my cupcakes, marshmallows, cookies, cakes, and other sweet treats for showers, parties, and other get-togethers. Stay tuned for updates!
